Problem

A global manufacturing company, with sales in more than 75 countries, aimed to address the significant financial burden of claims related to musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders, which have substantially increased among its employee population in recent years. The company was facing the following challenges regarding MSK:

  • Escalating costs: MSK was the leading driver of claims costs, significantly straining the YoY healthcare budget
  • Ineffective interventions: Traditional approaches to MSK were reactive and focused on addressing symptoms rather than the underlying root causes
  • Declining productivity: MSK led to reduced productivity, increased absenteeism, and decreased satisfaction among employees finding my exercises very helpful and try to dedicate at least 15-30 min a day to them when I can.

Solution

In search of an innovative solution to mitigate the growing MSK-related concerns, the employer selected Kaia Health for its pioneering digital-first approach, evidence-based care plans, and advanced technology.

In January 2022, Kaia Health was launched to the full employee population, who were able to access Kaia’s intuitive and easy- to-use app anytime and anywhere. Each employee received a personalized program with curated physical exercises, mindfulness techniques, and educational content. Throughout the therapy journey, employees benefited from the support of Kaia’s dedicated care team, as well as real-time feedback and functional assessments from Motion CoachTM, Kaia’s proprietary motion-analysis technology.

Outcomes

By prioritizing prevention and early intervention, the employer observed improvements in health and financial outcomes across its workforce, including:

  • Enhanced employee engagement and productivity at work
  • Increased employee satisfaction due to reduced stress levels and improved sleep quality
  • Significant cost savings, with the company noting over $500K in direct savings compared to the previous year

These findings validated the effectiveness of a digital-first approach in reducing overall claims costs.
