What is a Kaia Coach, exactly?
Kaia Coaches are certified health coaches who support Kaia users on their Kaia journey via 1:1 coaching sessions offered through the in-app Coach Chat feature or phone call. These sessions are designed to help you create goals and a realistic plan to succeed with your Kaia program.
In addition, you can contact your coach via in-app chat any time to ask a question. Further, Kaia Coaches are very knowledgeable about the Kaia Health app and can answer questions on motivation, how to use the app, and more.
Ultimately, your Kaia Coach is your accountability partner. They’ll help you explore new ways to cope with pain and move toward living the life you want. At Kaia, your coach will do this by emphasizing your growth, strengths, and capacity for change. They will also give you tips on how you can better fit the Kaia Health app into your daily life.
Why does Kaia offer coaching?
Research indicates that coaching helps people get the best results from their health programs.[1,2] Kaia Coaches will also help you to stay on track with your Kaia program. Further, they’ll support you in cultivating confidence, perseverance, and motivation. This, in turn, allows you to:
- Gain more control over your health
- Feel more capable of improving your health
- Have a sense of being supported and connected
- Increase your self-awareness
What is the Kaia Coaching philosophy?
Kaia Coaching is based on intrinsic methodology, which views everyone as unique and already having everything they need inside to succeed. With intrinsic methods, Kaia Coaches create a safe space to help you connect your intrinsic, or inner, motivations (your core values) with extrinsic, or outside, motivations (goals and actions).
For example, entering a contest to win a minivan is an extrinsic motivation, whereas wanting to spend more time with family driving to state parks is an intrinsic motivation. When you tap into your core values and what really drives you (aka your “Why”), this provides the necessary fuel to achieve your goals. This is because your goals will be based on what’s truly meaningful to you.
When you sign up for Kaia, you’ll be assigned a personal Kaia Coach. On that same signup day, you’ll receive a welcome chat in the Coach tab in your Kaia app. In that chat, we’ll dive right into getting to know you and your unique reasons for coming to Kaia.
In the Coach tab, you’ll be able to schedule your first of 12 free sessions with your assigned Kaia Coach. That way, you can get the most out of your Kaia journey. In these coaching sessions, your coach will support you in creating a routine that allows you to work smarter, not harder.
After you complete your first 6 bimonthly coaching sessions, you’ll graduate to the maintenance phase of Kaia coaching. While you’ll continue to have access to your coach through the Coach tab, check-ins will be a month apart for up to 6 months. This is intended to encourage you to keep building autonomy and a growth mindset that will help keep you moving forward long after the coaching relationship is over. You’ve got this!
Your first Kaia Coaching session that you schedule is called an intro session. In this session, the coach will confirm your Kaia coaching eligibility and whether the Kaia Health app is right for you. Then, your Kaia Coach will help you enable Kaia push notifications on your tablet or smartphone. That way, you’ll receive Kaia Coaching chat messages in real time, plus ongoing motivation and encouragement to keep working toward your goal. Plus, the Kaia Coach will answer questions about the Kaia Health app experience and ensure you feel confident as you begin to explore the program.
After these intro items have been addressed, your Kaia Coach will support you in beginning to explore your “Why.” Your “Why” is what brought you to Kaia and the value you hope to gain by building this new Kaia habit. Further, your “Why” will be your North Star that guides you during your Kaia journey. Your coach will revisit your “Why” with you throughout the course of your program. This is to ensure it still aligns with what you’re wanting for your life, since life tends to throw curve balls every now and again.
Some “Why” examples include:
- “I want to get into shape because I believe it’s part of leading a good life”
- “I want to strengthen my back so I can get on the floor and play with my grandkids”
- “I want to prevent injury as I age so I can continue to be independent”
In your subsequent 20-minute coaching sessions, your coach will check in about your experience with your Kaia program since you last spoke. They’ll ask you what has gone well since you last met when you were new to Kaia. That way, you can focus on your wins and build upon your strengths, which fosters a growth mindset.
Then, your coach will support you in finding ways to easily work Kaia into your daily routine via small, doable steps. These steps are also known as SMART goals:

All our Kaia Coaches are human. No chatbots here, we swear! Since Kaia Coaches are human, they work during normal business hours and make every effort to reply to questions as promptly as possible (usually within 1-2 business days). Here’s how to connect with your Kaia Coach for coaching sessions:
- If your coaching session is via in-app chat: Simply log in to your Kaia Health app on your tablet or smartphone. Your Kaia Coach will send the first message to you in the Coach tab.
- If your coaching session is via phone: Just answer your smartphone when your coach calls you at the scheduled time!
